If there is one thing I love, it’s a good killer doll movie. Chucky and Tiffany have a large place in my dark, creepy heart but now they need to move over and make room for M3gan because I love her and she is here to stay.
I know I’m a little late to the game with a review of this particular movie, but I loved it so much I felt is deserved a post on the blog. I’m sure by now you all know the basic plot for this film, but I will give you a quick synopsis.
A brilliant roboticist named Gemma suddenly becomes the guardian of her 8 year old Niece Cady when her parents suddenly die in an accident. Taking care of a child is something Gemma is not prepared for, especially now when she is under a lot of pressure from the toy company she works for. She needs help to get everything done and to help with Cady, and she decides to introduce Cady to a side project she has been working on named M3GAN to solve both problems.
“M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a lifelike doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally, M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to.”
Long story short, this decision ends up having dire consequences.
Overall, this movie was everything I was hoping it would be after seeing all the online hype the past few weeks. I loved that the end left it open for a sequel, which I hear they may be already planning. The only complaint I have is that you can clearly tell by a lot of scenes that this film was reedited to remove some of the gore to get it from a “R” rating to “PG-13” so more kids could see the movie. But fear not, I have heard rumblings already that there may be a directors cut headed our way when the movie comes to Blu ray.
What did you think of the movie? let me know in the comments.
