Ahh yes, it’s almost that time again. A brand new year is rapidly approaching and I am actually excited for once about the new year that lies ahead. Today I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate my favorite horror movies of 2022, as well a look ahead to what 2023 might hold for those of us who love horror.
At the beginning of year, I really didn’t have high hopes that the world of cinema would give me some great scary movies. However, looking back I was completely proven wrong. I actually have a long list of movies that I really enjoyed this year but for my Carpal Tunnels sake I am only talking about my top 3 that I enjoyed and the 3 I am most looking forward to (in no particular order). in 2023.
Bones & All

I absolutely loved this film, and now I’m reading the book and it is just as awesome. People might disagree with me on this, but I don’t think there are enough romantic horror films that are not campy, and “Bones and All” is most definitely not. I will admit when I first saw the trailer for this movie, I had my doubts about how the hell they were going to combine dealing with life as a teenager that suffers from being a cannibal with romance, but they did it beautifully and in a way that I love watching this film on the regular.
Barbarian

Barbarian is one of those films that I started to watch not having a clue what it had in store for me, and if you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you do the same. The movie starts one way where I thought for many minutes that it was going to be something that it totally was not and it made it sooooooomuch better. Plus it has Bill Skarsgård in it, what’s not to love about that?
Nope

I really don’t think there will ever be a time when Jordan Peele makes a move and I don’t love it. Bloody Disgusting summed it up for me perfectly by saying, “Nope is an accessible, straightforward sci-fi horror movie that nails its humor as much as it elicits gasps. Below is a darker examination of media and those it devoured and left behind.”
Looking Forward to 2023
M3GAN

Move over Chucky, get out of the way Annabelle, there is a new evil doll in town and her name is M3gan aka Megan. M3gan, which stands for Model 3 generative android is the creation of a engineer/programmer who decides to make the perfect toy for her Niece. Unfortunately, it is also a toy that will stop at nothing to protect her human friend. M3gan comes out in theaters January 6, 2023.
Scream 6

The Scream movies hold a special place in my heart because of how long they have stuck around and been successful. However I would be lying if I said that the whole “going to NYC” storyline didn’t have me concerned about how good this movie will be, I mean, look what happened when they decided it was a good move for Jason Voorhees to take a trip to the Big Apple, but I have high hopes this next installment of the franchise will prove me wrong. Scream 6 comes out in theaters March 10, 2023.
The Nun 2

Rounding off my top 3 movies I’m looking forward to in 2023 is the Nun 2. I have loved every single movie in the Conjuring franchise and I don’t see it being any different with this newest installment. In this sequel, we will get more of the story of the demon Valak and yet another confrontation with Sister Irene as it terrorizes the nunnery from the previous film. The Nun 2 will be in theaters September 8, 2023, just in time to start spooky season!
