My love for all things spooky started one night way back in 1982 when my mother foolishly let a 9 year old me watch the movie Poltergeist. Her reasoning, how scary can it really be if it’s only rated PG?
It scared the holy guacamole out of me and also gave me coulrophobia for many years. My mother severely regretted her decision for the next month because I refused to sleep without all the lights on in fear that motherfucking clown doll was under my motherfucking bed. Yeah it had scared me that bad, but it also sparked something inside of me. A spark that unfortunately had to be hidden for several years after. That night my mother decided to not let me watch anything remotely scary because she valued her sleep and a lower electric bill.
Fast forward a few years when I was 13 and I attended a sleepover at which we watched George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead. That night that spark from so many years ago turned into a flame. I was officially a hardcore fan of anything spooky and still am to this day.
But why a blog about scary stuff?
my decision to start this blog came to me one day when my husband was lovingly teasing me about how every single day I watch at least one horror movie, and that I fall asleep at night listening to stories of murder and mayhem on the true crime podcasts I subscribe to. My life is is enveloped in horror, ghosts, monsters and serial killers. Every day is Halloween for me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. So the next natural step was to start this blog and you reading this first post. What better way to start off October than to start writing about the things I love and sharing it with all of you.
What can I expect to read about?
A little bit of everything, kind of a online spooky curiosities shop with words. There will be everything from movie reviews to home decor ideas to even showing off my spooky crochet projects and art (crochet and drawing are also passions of mine). I’m just going to go with the flow and see where it takes me and I’m super excited to have all of you join me on this journey.
